VanDusen Botanical Garden…Winter Visit

Every winter the VanDusen Botanical Garden puts on the most spectacular holiday lights display throughout their garden areas, and although last year saw a cancellation of their Festival of Lights, it is back this year for all to enjoy. I am republishing the post with information at the end on how to book tickets for this event.

When you first enter VanDusen Botanical Garden you will be struck by the multitude of twinkling lights surrounding the pond and reflecting in the water. It really will take your breath away.

Within the garden, tree-lined pathways become lit up with hundreds of strands of lights. The actual number used throughout the garden for the displays is over one million!

Giant globes suspend from trees, while vibrant coloured lights emerge from the sides of trails.

Strands of lights in shades of blues and purples dangle from overhead.

There’s Santa’s sleigh, lighted toadstools, and umbrellas falling from the sky…

…as well as a giant hummingbird hovering over a pond.

Grab a hot chocolate and follow walkways that dazzle with an incredible variety of colour. The displays cover ten acres within the garden.

The lights cover flower beds, trees, shrubs, and garden areas, creating spectacular scenes.. The reflections in the ponds blend seamlessly with what’s above and the whole area becomes a magical winter wonderland.

These photos have been taken over the years with some displays changing and some staying the same. You do need to book ahead and secure tickets for this event. Visit the website here for more information.

Wishing everyone a very Happy Holiday!

  1. Wow what a beautiful place to visit at Christmas. The hummingbird is stunning. It’s a shame it wasn’t on this year but a lot of things have been cancelled.
